Aquarium Coral
Wild or tank raised, we do
our best to downright pamper our corals during their stay at
Aquatic Connection.
When you buy corals from Aquatic Connection, you can be assured
you will buy live aquarium corals that have been pampered and
properly cared for. Like any coral that has been collected and
shipped halfway across the globe, ours arrive, understandably,
in need of some rejuvenation. Which is why we do our best to
downright pamper them during their stay. Whether you are interested
in Live Acropora corals, Aquacultured corals, SPS corals, LPS
corals, mushroom corals, polyping corals, zooanthus corals, leather
corals, or any other soft coral, their treatment begins with
a slow-drip acclimation to equalize temperature, ph and alkalinity.
Then they are placed in our holding tanks where the water quality
is perfect. High current wave action cleans any built up slime
coat and loosens the sand and bacteria from their long journey.
Their polyps begin to extend and reach out to the available food
and light.
For lighting our corals are placed in appropriate lighting depending
upon there needs. For low light corals, they are placed under
Power Compacts. On corals that need extreme lighting, we use
only the best 1000-watt, 6,700K metal halide lighting to which
will awaken the sleeping polyps and color enhancing zooxanthellae.
Under these conditions our corals thrive and nourish, until we
send them on their way by picking with the most stringent quality
controls, and packaginging them with the utmost care, and shipping
by overnight carrier, to your door. All of this to ensure that
each coral sold will reach your hands in the best condition possible.
Xenia corals can be very difficult to acclimate; in general,
cultured specimens are hardier than wild harvested species and
will bounce back easier after shipping. |

Pink & White Pumping Xenia

The

raised means a healthier & more colorful coral
|
Red Sea Pink and White Xenia
is the crown jewel among xenia species. It's hardy and very attractive
with fast pulsing action. It does not grow as fast as other xenias,
but pulses much quicker then tree xenia and has a nice white/pink
color. Like all Xenia they are colonial animals with multiple
individual polyps attached to a piece of solid substrate. They
form stalks as they grow, and to reproduce. The eight-tentacle
polyps can pump, or pulse, and many scientists believe the pumping
action of the polyps slowly opening and closing is designed to
dispose of gasses and waste. However, it is still unknown why
these coral do pulse, and there are many water, lighting and
nutrient factors involved.
The Xenia we ship you is many generations tank raised . This
is very important since aquacultured Xenia are hardier than wild-collected
specimens and are without the potential to carry sea born infections,
or disease to your tank. They have lived there entire life under
aquarium lighting and with aquarium type water flow and movement.
A fast growing coral, provide adequate space between them and
other types of soft corals.
They require a medium to high light level combined with a medium
to strong water movement within the aquarium. For continued good
health, they will require the addition of iodine and other trace
elements to the water.
Under ideal conditions, and once acclimated, they may reproduce
rapidly in the established reef aquarium. The symbiotic algae
zooxanthellae hosted within their bodies provide the majority
of their nutritional requirements through photosynthesis. This
coral also absorbs phosphates but releases ammonia.
This particular species reproduces
by growing a "foot" on the stalk. The stalk will then
lean over and take hold of whatever it comes in contact with
it.

Blue Xenia also called Blue Anthillia
is groupings of colonial animals with multiple individual polyps
attached to a piece of solid substrate. They form stalks as they
grow, and to reproduce. They are a beautiful blue color and their
eight-tentacle polyps do not pulse like other species of Xenia
but will sway beautifully in the reef aquarium in time to the
tank current. The Blue Xenia we ship you is many generations
tank raised.

Description:Pom Pom Xenia are colonial animals with
the distinctive eight-leaved tentacles associated with all of
the members of Xenia. What makes Pom Pom Xenia appear different
is a much thicker stem coming up from the base to the tentacles.
And clusters of the Xenia produce the same shape as a cheerleader's
pom-pom.

people have also coined this coral as "African Blue Xenia"
since that is where Cespitularia is found. They are one of the
most highly sought after of all Xeniids.

WE WANT YOUR CORALS TO GROW - NOT JUST
STAY ALIVE
Why Phytoplankton:
Phytoplankton
is very important to marine life. It is the primary producers
in the ocean. Crucial to the development and survival of most,
if not all marine animals . But what is phytoplankton? It is
just a fancy word for tiny floating plants (such as diatoms and
dinoflagellates), which serve the same role in the food chains
of the oceans as grass and shrubs serve on land; namely small
things eat them. Many coral reef animals feed directly on phytoplankton.
Some essential nutrients provided by phytoplankton cannot be
synthesized by animals, and therefore are extremely important
components of a healthy diet. Click
