Aquarium Live Rock

Tonga Branch Live Rock

Live Rock Differences

We carry 8 different types of live rock, coming from many locations around the world. Differences in the rock physical make up from area to area, make for different coraline algae colors to become the dominant colors as the rock matures in your tank. For example, Fiji live rock is predominantly covered with a purple coraline growth once matured, Tonga , and Carribbean live rock is more rainbow colored, and Marshall Island live rock, has more red , orange, and yellow coraline algae growth than the others.

 Ultra Color Caribbean Live Rock

Grades of Live Rock

We purchase only the nicest live rock from some of the best sources. Once collected, all our Live Rock is placed in high current ocean vats, not just misted with water. We make sure it is flown off the island, not shipped which other suppliers do, (often shipping live rock by boat delays shipments from 4-6 weeks). We then treat our live rock in 600 gallon vats with the right chemistry and large skimmers , it's an almost zero ammonia enviroment for our live rock to thrive in. This removes unwanted organisms, while adding nourishment to the existing life forms we wish to have flourish.
Fiji Premium Live Rock

Fiji Live Rock comes from the oceans off the island of Fiji. It is one of the most popular live rocks for building reef tanks and aquarium live rock tanks due to it's high capacity for bacteria growth. Once established in your reef tank the predominant colors will be dark purples and some orange. Live Rock is an absolute nescessity for all saltwater aquariums. The live rock acts like living filters and increases your success of keeping marine life healthy ten fold over tanks that are without live rock.

There are a number of reasons why Fiji Live Rock has become so popular with aquarists. Besides the nice look it has, the porous surface and crevices of Fiji Live Rock causes it to have an increased surface area, which results in tremendous surface area for all the micro and macro life to form, flourish, and multiply on.

The recommended amount of Fiji Live Rock for an aquarium is 1-1/2 to 2 pounds per gallon. This amount will create a beautiful aquascape, and add the correct surface area for a healthy ecosystem. Fiji Premium Live Rock is mainly oval shapes, and makes a great foundation rock for any marine aquarium. For aquascaping, it is acceptable to alter the shapes and sizes of the live rock with a hammer and chisel. This will not damage the integrity of the live rock, nor it's inhabitants. Please, just make sure you wear safety glasses.

3 Types of Premium
Tonga Live Rock
Branch , Shelf and Ultra...

Tonga Branch

Tonga live rock was made famous for it's BRANCH ROCK... it is large branches of mostly Pocillopora, or Porites, or even Acropora, that died, and then were encrusted with coralline algae. They are predominantly reddish and orange, with purple or other color highlights. The live rock "braches", are usually 11/2 - 2" in diameter, and often "Y" shaped. Excellent for building layers and shelves in your reef aquarium. Branch live rock makes for excellent open setups, where waterflow is important.

Tonga Slab or Shelf Live Rock

The second type of Tonga rock , less common (and less seen), SHELF rock is a large head of table top, or brush Acropora, that has died, and been encrusted with corallines of many colors. The "disks" or "heads" are usually from 8-10" to 14-16" across (some of each in every box), and a couple of inches thick top to bottom. The head is broken off at the base. So you get a thick frisbee shaped acropora head, fully encrusted . It makes excellent platforms on which to place your coral specimens.

Ultra Tonga Live Rock

Ultra Tonga live rock is beautiful rock. It is harvested right around the coral reefs themselves. Therefore Ultra Tonga is made from the corals that were broken in storms, that have fallen and were encrusted with coraline over time. Stunningly beautiful!

Ultra Tonga Live Rock is available from us both "cured" and "uncured". Tonga live rock consists of ancient encrusted coral heads. The advantages of using Tonga Ultra Live Rock is the incredible diversity of coloration, and unique shapes. It is also lighter than Fiji Premium Rock. For Tonga Ultra Live Rock we recommend 1 to 1-1/2 pounds per gallon. For aquascaping, it is acceptable to alter the shapes and sizes of the rock with a hammer and chisel. This will not damage the integrity of the rock, nor it's inhabitants. Please, just make sure you wear safety glasses. Tonga Ultra live rock will color up with more unique colors than Fiji rock. You will see purple, pink, red, yellow, and green coralline algae.

Note: If your tank contains fish, corals or invertebrates already, before adding your new delivery of live rock, (cured or uncured), please be sure to do a final cure, just as a precaution.

Namoli Live Rock

Beautiful Namoli Live Rock

Namoli live rock has the best shape we've seen. Very lacey, beautiful shapes.

Namoli Live Rock is live rock that consists of ancient encrusted acropora heads. The advantages of using Namoli Live Rock is the incredible lacey look it has, and the diversity of coloration. It is also lighter. For Namoli Live Rock we recommend 11/2 to 2 pounds per gallon. For aquascaping, it is acceptable to alter the shapes and sizes of the rock with a hammer and chisel. This will not damage the integrity of the rock, nor it's inhabitants. Please, just make sure you wear safety glasses. Namoli live rock will color up with more unique colors than Fiji rock. You will see purple, pink, red, yellow, and green coralline algae.

"I received my Namoli live rock order this week and put it in the tank. All that I can say is AMAZING. I have a few friends that were getting live rock at the same time that I was looking. I let them get theirs first, then I selected to call you. I am so glad that I did the Namoli Live Rock was better than anything that I have seen online or in a store (I traveled over 200 miles looking at more than 25 stores). Although all live rock (I think) is very expensive, the rock I purchased from you was well worth it. There are all kinds of beneficial critters, macroalgae everywhere and coraline covers 80-90% of the rock. Keep up the good work. If you take as much care with your fish as you do your rock, I will never order or purchase from anyone else! Thanks again!"

Not just another box of Caribbean Rock

BEAUTIFUL CORALINE COLORS

We have finally found a caribbean live rock collector that meets our high standards. This live rock is actually ancient caribbean coral heads that have been reencrusted over with coralline algae, sponges, tunicates, macro algaes, and other interesting invertebrates. The biggest difference between Caribbean Live Rock and Fiji, Tonga or Marshall Island, is that the caribbean rock is more plated or sheets. Some people like this look, some people don't. Caribbean live rock has many open areas due to its plating structure which will enable the aquarium to have better circulation, and a natural appearance.
